토요일 AT&T 센터에서 그리스의 Panathinaikos을 113-91로 이긴 경기에서 팀 던컨은 20 득점을 했고, 4쿼터엔 더 이상 뛰질 않았다. 이번 프리시즌 경기는 2007년 결승전을 치룬 후 갖는 첫 홈 경기였다.

던컨은 6/9 의 필드골과 8/10의 자유투를 기록했다.

스퍼스는 4쿼터 초반 Anthony Lever-Pedroza, Keith Langford, Marcus Williams, Kris Lang and Ian Mahinmi의 라인업을 가동했다. 마커스 윌리엄스와 이안 마힌미는 각각 이번 여름과 2005년에 스퍼스로 부터 지명 받았었다.

6-11의 센터인 마힌미는 게임 종료 7 분 52 초를 남겨 두고 그의 첫 골을 성공 시켰다. 그가 강력한 수비를 펼치는 순간 사이드 라인으로 나가 있던 던컨은 크게 손뼉을 쳤다. 마힌미는 경기 1 분 52 초를 남겨 두고 다시 점퍼를 넣었다.

루키 가드 다리우스 워싱턴은 10 득점을 했다. 워싱턴은 또한 파나티나코스의 가드가 속공 상황에서 주춤 하는 사이 스틸을 하기도 했다.

오랫 동안 사이드라인에서의 강렬함으로 잘 알려진 스퍼스의 코치 그렉 포포비치는 게임 내내 조용한 선생님 모드였다.

3 쿼터: 우도카 스텝 업

보웬의 후계자로 불린 이메 우도카는 3쿼터 경기 종료 6분 36초를 남겨두고 이 날 경기의 첫 득점을 했다. 이 득점으로 3쿼터 득점을 14-2로 스퍼스가 앞서 나갔고, 76-48 까지 앞서 나가게 되었다.

우도카는 3쿼터 말미에 추가 득점을 하면서 92-64로 까지 점수차를 벌렸다.

이날 열린 경기에서 한 가지 재미 있는 일이 일어났는데, 심판이 파나티나코스 선수에게 상의 자락을 바지에 집어 넣으라고 지시한 것이다. 우리는 셔츠를 바지에 넣질 않는 그리스 선수에게 심판들이 무엇을 할 수 있는지를 알아낼려고 노력했다. NBA에서와 같이 벌금을 물리거나 징계를 내릴 순 없는 노릇이다.

2 쿼터: 던컨과 보웬

팀 던컨과 브루스 보웬은 2쿼터에서 공격적인 모습을 보이면서 팀이 2쿼터를 끝내고 60-44로 앞서나갈 수 있게 했다.

던컨은 2쿼터에서 2 개의 필드골과 4/4의 자유투로 8 점을 더 했다.

보웬은 공격에서 싱싱해 보였다. 1쿼터에 덩크를 꽂아 넣은데 이어서 2쿼터 9 분 33 초를 남겨 두고 샷 클락 종료와 함께 드라이빙 핑거 롤을 성공시켰다.

베리는 3 분 57 초에 삼점 슛 두 개를 연습했고, 3 분 20 초를 남겨두고선 56-37로 앞서 나가게 했다.

1쿼터: 루키들의 웅장한 입장.

스퍼스의 루키들은 경기 전 팀에 앞장서 플로어로 입장했다. 코트로 들어선 젊은 선수들은 그들 스스로도 무엇을 하고 있는지 의아해 했다. 마누 지노빌리는 다시 포인트 가드로 선발 출장했다. 지노빌리는 스타팅 포인트 가드로선 다소 오프 가드인 것 처럼 보였다. 그는 두 개의 3점 슛과 돌파로 1쿼터 6 분 동안 8 득점과 1 어시스트를 했고 스퍼스는 1 쿼터를 32-25로 앞선 채 끝냈다.

베리는 그의 첫 슛을 쐈을 때 3 점 슛터로서의 경험 많은 모습을 보여줬다. 이 슛으로 프리시즌 동안 5/7의 3 점 슛을 기록했다.

스퍼스의 젊은 가드들은 경기 초 부터 투입 되었다. 앤써니 레버-페드로자는 경기에 투입 되자 마자 점퍼를 날렸다. 그는 1분이 되기도 전에 4득점을 해냈다. 마커스 워싱턴은 1쿼터 말미 부터 투입 되어 잡아 당기는 파울을 당한 후 자유투를 성공시켰다. 그리고 프란시스코 엘슨에게 어시스트를 하기도 했다. (and had an assist to Francisco Elson on a break. on a break를 뭐라 해석해야 될지.-_-;)

게임 전:그리스 팬들.

작은 규모였지만 생기 있었고 게임이 열리기 전 5명의 요란한 파나티나코스의 팬 무리들은 상단 쪽 자리에서 즐기고 있었다. 그들은 모두 파나티나코스의 팀 칼라인 녹색을 입고 있었고, 자신들의 존재감을 알리기 위해 드럼을 가지고 있었다.

크리스 랭, 키스 랭포드, 앤써니 레버-페드로자 그리고 다리우스 워싱턴 모두는 오늘 밤 경기에서 가드 자리에서 뛸 수 있는 기회가 주어지길 바랐던 것 처럼 보였다. 물론 올 해 정규 시즌에선 이들 중 그 누구도 스퍼스 유니폼을 입지 못 할 가능성도 있다.

하지만 약간이나마 열려있는 가능성으로, 결국 데빈 브라운과 같은 경우 처럼 그들을 필요로 하는 NBA의 어떤 팀으로 갈 수도 있다.
자신들의 목표를 달성하기 위해서 지금 당장은 D-리그나 해외에서 뛰어야 할지라도, 그들의 얼마 안 되는 프리시즌 게임은 결국 스포츠로 살아가는데 있어서 중요한 경험이 될 것이다.

랭, 랭포드, 레버-페드로자 그리고 워싱턴, 이들 모두는 프리시즈 첫 경기에서 최소 10 분 이상을 뛸 수 있었다. 토니 파커는 부상으로 페이스를 늦추는 상태이고 스퍼스의 다른 베테랑들은 프리시즌이 별 필요성이 없으며, 스퍼스의 무명의 선수들은 오늘밤 좀 더 많은 경험을 얻을 기회를 가졌다.

저번 경기에서 이안 마힌미가 블럭 하나를 기록 했는데, 아주 제대로 발라버렸나 봅니다. 팬 포럼에 어떤 인간이 왜 이안에 대한 얘기가 없냐고 하자, 다른 사람들이 동여상 어디 있냐고 너도 나도 묻는데 자긴 경기장에서 직접 봤다고, 동영상 클립은 뜨질 않았다고 하자, 역시 어디서 본 인간이 대단 했다고 맞장구를 쳐주더군요.

오늘 경기에서도 블럭을 하나 기록해 줬고, 던컨도 꽤 흡족해 하는 걸까요.-_-; 뭐 하여튼 스퍼스 팬들 사이에선 이대리와의 비교가 어쩔 수 없기 때문에 올 시즌 초반은 하부 리그로 떨어져 있다고 해도, 팀에 합류 하게 되면 어떤 모습을 보여줄지 기대 됩니다.

다리우스 워싱턴은 써머 리그 동안 좋은 득점력을 보여주면서 팬 포럼에서도 이름이 좀 오르내리기도 했었는데요. 헛슨을 영입할려다 실패한 이후, 크리스티 자신이 NBA로 복귀 하고 싶은 팀 중 스퍼스 이름도 끼어 놓으면서 어떻게 될지 모르겠습니다.

아직 자리는 한 자리 비어 있지만, 시즌 오프닝 땐 스퍼스와 함께 못 간다는 거, 그리고 스퍼스의 가드진은 이미 포화상태란 거... 쯥.

Final: Spurs 113, Panathinaikos 91

FOURTH QUARTER: YOUTH SERVED
Tim Duncan had 20 points and sat out the fourth quarter as the Spurs beat Panathinaikos of Greece 113-91 Saturday at the AT&T Center. The preseason game was the Spurs' first action on their home floor since the 2007 NBA Finals.
Duncan hit 6 of 9 from the field and 8 of 10 free throws.
Early in the fourth quarter the Spurs went with a lineup of Anthony Lever-Pedroza, Keith Langford, Marcus Williams, Kris Lang and Ian Mahinmi. Williams was drafted by the Spurs this summer and Mahinmi was drafted in 2005.
Mahinmi, a 6-foot-11 center, made his first basket with 7:52 left in the game. He had a strong defensive stop moments later that had Duncan clapping on the sidelines. Mahinmi hit a jumper with 1:52 left.
Rookie guard Darius Washington had 10 points. Washington also had a steal when he ran down a Panathinaikos guard from behind on a fast break.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, long known for his intensity on the sidelines, was in his calm teacher mode throughout the game.
THIRD QUARTER: UDOKA STEPS UP
Ime Udoka, who has been called the next Bruce Bowen, scored his first points of the game when he hit a jumper with 6:36 left in the third quarter. That finished a 14-2 Spurs run that made it 76-48.
Udoka had another basket as the Spurs took a 92-64 lead at the end of the third quarter.
At one point the game was held up while an official made one of the Panathinaikos players tuck in his shirt. We were trying to figure out what they can do to a player from Greece who doesn't tuck in his shirt. It's not like the NBA can fine or suspend him.
SECOND QUARTER: DUNCAN AND BOWEN
Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen got in an offensive groove in the second quarter to carry the Spurs to a 60-44 halftime lead over Panathinaikos on Saturday at the AT&T Center.
Duncan had eight points in the second quarter with two baskets and 4-of-4 free-throw shooting.
Bowen was looking youthful on offense. He followed his first-quarter dunk with a driving finger roll with the shot clock running down with 9:33 left in the second quarter. Bowen added an assist to Tim with 8:24 left and a jumper with 6:56 left in the half.
Barry drilled two more 3-pointers with 3:57 and 3:20 left in the half to put the Spurs up 56-37.
FIRST QUARTER: ROOKIES' GRAND ENTRANCE
The Spurs' rookies led the team out onto the floor before the game. The catch - the veterans stood and waited under the stands for about a minute - leaving the youngsters standing on the floor by themselves wondering what to do.
Manu Ginobili started again as the point guard. Ginobili as a starting point guard looks a lot like Ginobili as an off guard. He had eight points in the first six minutes of the game, hitting two 3-pointers and a driving basket. He also had one assist. The Spurs finished the first quarter with a 32-25 lead.
Barry showed his experience when he drilled his first shot, a 3-pointer. That made him 5 of 7 from 3-point range in the preseason.
The Spurs' young guards got involved early. Anthony Lever-Pedroza entered the game and almost immediately hit a jumper. He scored four points in less than a minute. Marcus Washington hit the floor later in the first quarter and drew a foul, made a free throw, and had an assist to Francisco Elson on a break.
PREGAME: GREEK FANS
A small but lively and loud group of five Panathinaikos fans was having fun in upper seats a little while before the game. They were all wearing green - their team's colors - and had a drum to help them make their presence known.
Kris Lang, Keith Langford, Anthony Lever-Pedroza and Darius Washington are all likely to see playing time at guard for the Spurs tonight. It is also possible that not one of them will wear a Spurs uniform in a regular-season game this year.
But odds are a few of them will eventually follow the trail of players like Devin Brown and eventually make their way back to the NBA somewhere down the line. Their few preseason games can be an important learning experience on the way to eventually making a living in the sports - even if they have to play in the Developmental League or overseasons to accomplish their goals.
Lang, Langford, Lever-Pedroza and Washington all played at least 10 minutes in the Spurs' first preseason game. With Tony Parker slowed by an injury and the Spurs' other veterans not in need of much preseason game time, the little-known Spurs players have the chance to gain more experience tonight.
